Lakshminarayanan Mahadevan is an Indian American mathematician, and Lola England de Valpine Professor of Applied Mathematics, at Harvard University.[1] One of his major accomplishments is offering a mathematical explanation of why flags move the way they do in wind, together with fellow mathematician Médéric Argentina.

He graduated from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, from University of Texas at Austin with a M.S., from Stanford University with a M.S. in Mathematics, and with a Ph.D. in 1995.
He taught at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Trinity College, Cambridge, University of Cambridge, National Center for Biological Sciences, University of Oxford, Harvard Medical School.
